Did You Know?
Attendance Matters, Especially During STAAR Season!
As we head into STAAR testing season, there’s one important item that often gets overlooked… student attendance!
Did you know that even missing just one or two days a month can have a significant impact on a student’s academic progress? When students are consistently in class, they build a stronger understanding of our curriculum, develop better routines, and feel more confident when it’s time to demonstrate what they’ve learned.
Why Attendance Is So Important?
- Learning Happens Every Day
Classrooms are busy places! Teachers are reviewing key concepts, introducing new material, practicing test-taking strategies, and building critical thinking skills daily. When students miss school, they miss instruction that can’t fully be replicated through makeup work. - STAAR Preparation Is Ongoing
Preparing for the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) isn’t something that happens the week before testing. It’s built into daily lessons all year long. Every class period counts. - Confidence Comes from Consistency
Students who attend regularly feel more prepared and less anxious during testing season. Familiar routines and steady progress help build confidence. - Attendance Impacts Achievement
Research consistently shows a direct link between attendance and academic success. Students who are in school more often tend to perform better.
How Parents Can Help?
We understand that illnesses and emergencies happen, and student health always comes first. But when students are healthy, being present at school is one of the most powerful ways families can support academic success. Scheduling appointments outside of school hours when possible also helps keep students in the classroom.
As we move closer to testing season, we ask our RFISD families to make daily attendance a priority. When students show up consistently, they give themselves the best opportunity to succeed!
