Rockport-Fulton ISD offers Advanced Academic Services, including the Gifted and Talented Program, for high-achieving students who desire to participate in advanced coursework and activities in preparation for higher education. In multiple grade levels, students identified for the Gifted and Talented Program participate in Texas Performance Standards Projects (TPSP) as addressed in the district’s Continuum of Learning Experiences.
In elementary schools all teachers are required to provide curriculum and instruction at high levels of difficulty and at high levels of complexity. Teachers use different instructional techniques to meet the instructional needs of these students. In middle and high schools, Pre-Advanced Placement and Advanced Placement classes are available to any student willing to take on the challenges of difficult coursework. All Advanced Placement course syllabi in RFISD have been approved by the College Board, as required. In addition, high school students are afforded opportunities to participate in college-level Dual Credit Courses.
The Gifted and Talented Program, as part of the Advanced Academics Program, is designed to meet the general intellectual and specific academic needs of identified students in grades K-12. The program is designed to fulfill the goal of the Texas State Plan for the Education of Gifted and Talented Students -- that gifted students develop "innovative products and performances that are advanced in relation to students of similar age, experience, or environment" and to ensure that "students have been challenged to work at the highest levels."
